An Afternoon of Whimsical Family Fun at Hortons Vintage Steam Fair

on

This weekend, we had the absolute joy of visiting Hortons Vintage Steam Fair as part of a lovely PR opportunity — and what an afternoon it was! Nestled in a charming corner of the countryside at Pickney’s Green, this travelling vintage fair is a true celebration of nostalgia, joy, and good old-fashioned fun.

As a Mum, I’m always looking for days out that the whole family can enjoy, and this ticked every box. My husband and I were just as captivated as our daughter — and that’s saying something!

A Magical Step Back in Time

From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into a storybook. With brightly coloured vintage rides, hand-painted signs, and the sound of a classic organ playing in the background, the atmosphere was pure magic.

There’s something so charming about the traditional steam-powered rides — the carousel with its beautiful horses, the helter-skelter, and the swingboats all had that timeless appeal that made the grown-ups feel like kids again. I grew up with the steam fair visiting every year so to take the little miss to one and see her go on the same rides I did was just like a full circle moment. I can’t believe she was tall enough to go on everything!

Family Fun for All Ages

Our daughter couldn’t stop smiling — and to be honest, neither could we! She loved the mini rides (especially the old-school car ride), and we loved seeing her face light up. The dodgems were a firm favourite riding them twice but she absolutely loved the gallopers – just like her mama! We had to ride it three times as she said on the last time she “just needed to ride the beautiful chicken” – we couldn’t stop giggling! The staff were lovely too, really welcoming and great with children.

One of the things I loved most was how the fair caters to all ages. Whether you’re taking toddlers on their first ride or enjoying some retro thrills as a couple, there’s something special about slowing down and soaking in a day that doesn’t rely on screens or tech.

Sweet Treats & Local Delights

Of course, no trip to the fair would be complete without fairground treats! Candy floss, traditional sweets, ice cream — it was all there and every bit as delicious as you’d hope. There were also some fab food trucks that gave the whole event a lovely community feel.

Why You Should Visit

If you’re looking for a unique family day out that’s full of charm, character, and proper fun — Hortons Steam Fair is a must. It’s the kind of experience that reminds you of simpler times and leaves you with a full heart (and maybe a sticky-fingered toddler!).

We made so many wonderful memories and can’t wait to go again next time it’s nearby.

Check out Hortons website to see if they are coming to a town near you soon – thanks for having us!
