Family Caravan Holiday in Burnham-on-Sea: A Perfect Seaside Weekend

on

If you’re dreaming of sandy beaches, classic arcades, and the comforting charm of a caravan holiday, Burnham-on-Sea is a hidden gem on the Somerset coast that delivers all that and more. We recently spent a long weekend staying at “Nanna’s caravan” as the little miss calls it, and it was everything a proper British seaside escape should be—relaxing, fun, and full of chips, ice cream, and laughter.

Our home for the weekend was a family members caravan, tucked away in a peaceful park just a short walk from the beach and town. Mornings were slow and easy—tea on the steps, salty sea breeze, and the comforting hum of holiday life around us. It was the perfect base to unwind and enjoy everything Burnham-on-Sea has to offer.

We made the most of Burnham’s famously wide sandy beach. Whether we were paddling in the shallows, searching for shells, or just watching the tide roll in, it was pure coastal magic. We taught the little miss how to make her own sandcastle and even filled up a moat with water in buckets from the sea. I think the beach might just be her happy place.

Of course, we couldn’t resist the arcades. The pier was alive with flashing lights and cheerful chaos—2p machines, claw grabbers, and air hockey matches that turned unexpectedly competitive. There’s something nostalgic and delightful about losing track of time among the buzzers and jingles. Plus it doesn’t hurt that she was winning all the random little toys from the machine, particularly a cuddly capybara which she named Winston.

No seaside holiday is complete without indulgence. We sampled towering ice creams in waffle cones (complete with fudge sticks and sauce, naturally) and devoured chips whilst watching the sea. Sitting on the beach, watching the waves with a warm cuppa in hand? Pure bliss.

Why Burnham-on-Sea Was Just What We Needed

There was something beautifully simple about our weekend in Burnham-on-Sea. No strict plans. No big expenses. Just time together, seaside fun, and the kind of memories that last longer than your tan. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifteenth, Burnham has a way of making you feel like you’ve come home.

Planning your own seaside escape? We can’t recommend a stay in Burnham-on-Sea enough—especially if you have a cozy caravan waiting and a Nanna who stocks it with biscuits.
